The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism announced that veteran hotel executive Jackson Alexander Weech will assume the top post, bringing more than 35 years of hospitality experience to the role.
Weech most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of The Royal Towers at Atlantis Paradise Island and has been President of the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association since December 2024.
His background spans hotel operations, sales, marketing, strategic planning, finance, labour relations and advocacy, and he has collaborated with government and industry on air-lift development, workforce development, infrastructure and tourism product improvement.
“Jackson Weech brings to the Ministry a depth of tourism industry experience that will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen the sector and ensure that tourism delivers meaningful economic opportunities for Bahamians,” Glenys Hanna Martin said.
Before managing The Royal Towers, he served as Vice President of Hotel Operations at Atlantis Paradise Island. Earlier roles included Hotel Manager at Sandals Royal Bahamian and Sandals Negril, and General Manager of SuperClubs Breezes Bahamas for 15 years while also working across other SuperClubs properties in Jamaica.
His expertise also includes human resources. As Assistant Executive Director of the Bahamas Hotel Employers’ Association, he represented member hotels in mediation, arbitration and advised on industrial agreements.
Weech earned a Higher National Diploma in Hotel Management from Shannon College of Hotel Management in Ireland, a Diploma in Hotel Management from the Bahamas Hotel Training College and completed Cornell University’s Executive Development Program.
Continuity in leadership follows a period of record growth, with the Ministry’s “A Lifetime of Islands” campaign driving three straight years of visitor-arrival highs, culminating in 12.5 million guests in 2025.
He succeeds Latia Duncombe, who led the Ministry for more than four years, initially as acting Director General from January 2022 before formally taking the position in January 2023.
“I am honoured to have been entrusted with the responsibility of serving as Director General of The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism,” Weech said. “I have spent my career in this industry and have had the privilege of working alongside many of the people and organisations that make Bahamian tourism successful.” He will assume the role on October 1, 2026.
